 “Beginning in November, 2007, the JRRF successfully implemented IUID and integrated data within the Catalog Ordering Logistic Tracking System (COLTS), achieving significant benefits. These benefits include reduced repair cycle time, integrated configuration management of supply chain management actions, and an operational rate of 100% for all supported platforms. Further, routine logistics processes have been streamlined with IUID and handheld scanners. As a result of creating data that is more accessible, more accurate and actively used to manage assets throughout the lifecycle, IUID and Supply Chain Management integration saves money, time, and ultimately lives on the battlefield. During this period of COLTS’ SCM activity, 64 Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) robots were rebuilt from destroyed condition for a cost savings of approximately $3.2 million dollars. In addition, as of November, 2007, COLTS had processed over 6,000 completed work orders, 26,000 maintenance actions and shipped close to 5,000 items.”

  “Adopting IUID instead of entering data manually has provided time savings in the data entry process and increased the accuracy of the data entered into the Supply Chain Management (SCM) system for the identification, tracking and management of all JSEOD configuration items. The analysis showed that the return on investment in the areas of operation, maintenance and engineering would result in a labor savings. Use of IUID data matrix scanning vs. manual entry at all levels of the maintenance and logistics processes has diminished the amount of touch time in each data transaction and enhanced accuracy of the data records as a whole. The combination of the IUID data matrix and the SCM software has provided NAVEODTECHDIV Code 523 with the ability to perform life cycle management of all the JSEOD, Underwater and CREW assets they are responsible for with real-time visibility into the status of all equipment around the world.”
